A Loving Choice is pleased to
recommend this book to all prospective adoptive
parents.
Compiled by Thomas and Rhoda Bontrager from Northern Indiana,
For This Child
We Prayed
shares the experiences of those who traveled
from the disappoint-
ment of childlessness to the joy of parenthood by adoption.
They accepted adoption, not as a second-best solution, but as God's plan for
forming their family. The stories show God working out details of seemingly
impossible situations. Adoption is pictured as a venture of faith ~ faith
in God who designs families and forms them by different means.
For This Child We Prayed was written to bless adoptive
families, to provide useful resources for those considering adoption, and to
help readers better understand what adoption is about.
For This Child We
Prayed can be ordered from
Christian Light Publications
Another wonderful book by
Rhoda Bontrager.

This is an unusual,
beautifully illustrated book for preschool and primary children on the blessings
of being an adopted child. It emphasizes the
values of parental love,
Christian family living, and adoption into God's family.

Adoption Insurance is now being offered! If
you live in CA, FL, HI, LA, NJ, NY,
Pa, or TX (the adoption
itself can take place in any state), you can now purchase insurance and get
reimbursed for out of pocket expenses if your adoption fails.
Go to
Adoption Assurance to check it out.
If you need to locate an
Adoption Attorney, we recommend an attorney
from the
American Academy of Adoption Attorneys.

Creating your Family Profile
Many families starting down the adoption path have questions
on how to put a family profile together. There is no right or wrong way to
do it, and probably
the best advice we can give is to simply let your heart be
your guide. A birth-
mother needs to know who you are, what your priorities are,
and how you live
life day to day. A 'Dear Birthmother' letter that truly
comes from your heart
will easily move the birthmother that is meant for you.
A family profile is a 'Dear Birthmother' letter, and pictures
of you, your home,
your family, animals . . . whatever you choose to show.
You should also remember that it needs to be easy to mail. It will usually
go out in a package with 6-8 other family profiles. Another important
thing to remember is ~ do not include your
last names or the specific town where you live. The
degree of openness in an adoption is something that you and your birthmother can
decide upon after having met and and gotten to know one another. Simply
state in your profile that you
live in Central Indiana, or the East Coast, without being too
specific.
Most birthmothers tend to like the more active pictures.
The family barbecues,
birthday parties, vacations, church gatherings, that show you
relaxing and enjoy-
ing yourselves. Make and keep a master copy with the
original pictures. That way you can simply run down to the local
copy shop and have more printed when you
need them.
Below are a few sample profiles for you to review. Be
creative. Family profiles are
great snapshots in time, that you can keep and share forever.
Mine was always
a work in progress with the latest and best pictures immediately going into
the profile.
Profile sample 1: Gina and Sal ~ Gina and Sal are now
expecting twins!

Here there was also a page about Gina written by Sal,
and also a page about Sal written by Gina, but to save
space, I did not reproduce them

Just to complete Gina & Sal's story, here are their twins, Sophia
