We would like to welcome aboard our Canadian families.  The adoption of U.S. children by Canadian families is a blessing to many.  In some Canadian provinces,

the wait time for the adoption of a child through Canadian social services is 10 to

15 years.  There are a couple more steps required in the legal process for Canadian

families bringing babies from the U.S., but this is mostly on the Canadian side for legal entry of the child into Canada.

The Hague Convention has yet to be ratified by the United States.  The Hague Convention is an agreement made between two countries that provides over-

sight mechanisms and regulations for adoptions between the two countries.  Because the U.S. has not ratified this agreement, the Canadian government does not encourage or recommend the adoption of U.S. children to their citizens.  This

is a worthy attempt by the Canadian government to protect their families from

unscrupulous people and organizations that unfortunately do exist everywhere.

The upside of this for Canadian citizens is that until the Hague Convention is

ratified in the U.S., it is still extremely easy and legal for them to pursue adoption

in the U.S. and utilize any and all of the many, many U.S. organizations that can

help families locate birthmothers and adopt a child.

We would also like to welcome our Amish and Mennonite families that have

joined us in the last few months.  As a result of us being recommended and listed

in the book For This Child We Prayed  by Thomas and Rhoda Bontrager (see our

'Resources' page for information on this wonderful book), we have been getting

calls from Amish and Mennonite families from all over the United States and

Canada.  We are thrilled to be able to present our birthmothers with families from

such solid, ethical, and religious homes and communities.
